Spanish Rice the MHS way!

Spanish Rice


o  1 cup of uncooked rice
o  2 tablespoons oil
o  1 tablespoon diced onion
o  1 tablespoon Tomato Chicken Bouillon
o  2 ¼ cups water

Dice onion to a small dice.

Preheat small sauce pan to 5-6 (medium high) add oil and sauté onion and rice till rice is a light golden color.

Add tomato bouillon to rice and mix in.  Add water, stir then cover with lid cook till water is simmering then lower heat to 2-3 (medium low heat).

Make sure you keep the lid on so the rice will steam. Check every five minutes and gently shake pan to redistribute water. Cook for a total of 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes of cooking, remove from the heated burner and let the rice stand with lid on for an additional 15 minutes to continue steaming.

Breakfast Burrito Shuffle

Sausage, Potato, Egg and Cheese breakfast burritos:

 

 

 
Follow these simple steps and you'll be doing the kitchen shake!
 
1 Potato – peeled and diced
1/2 cup Pork sausage or Chorizo
(Optional) ¼ cup diced onion
1 egg per person in your group –
1 tablespoon water
1 cup grated cheese
2 tablespoon oil for potato
1 tablespoon oil for cooking egg
 
Pre heat skillet to 4 ½  Pour in 2 tablespoons oil till hot.  Add diced potato and onion (if you are using onion) cook till potato is soft and brown and onions (if using) are soft.  Add sausage and cook till done. For Chorizo cook about 2 minutes. For Pork sausage cook about 4-5 minutes and drain some of the grease before adding eggs.
In a large bowl crack in all eggs (make sure you don’t have pieces of shell in the egg.  Add 2 tablespoons of water and whisk till mixed.  Set aside.
 
 Once you have your tortillas made, add egg to skillet with potatoes and sausage and cook till eggs are firm.
 Serve eggs in equal portions in tortillas and add cheese and picante sauce (optional)


Popcorn Goodness!

Quick little fun treat to beat the rainy weather blues or in our case, 6 week exam blues!



Popcorn balls
   
Pop 1 bag of popcorn
In a large microwave safe bowl add the following:
  • 2 cups of marshmallows 
  • 2 tbs chocolate chips 
  • 1 tbs butter
Microwave for 1 minute
Add popped popcorn making sure to omit un-popped kernels
Using rubber scraper mix and form balls

Wiki Link for Iron Kitchen Recipes

Later in the semester we will hold an Iron Kitchen competition to see who is the best of the best in our class.  Each kitchen will go up against each other and be eliminated one by one to see who is the Iron Kitchen of the class.

Google doc about baking

Google docs are a great way to give you information without using hard copy paper.  Since classrooms are quickly becoming technology focused, I will begin using google docs as a tool to provide you virtual handouts. Hard copy handouts will still be avalable but if you lose it or are not in class this is where assignement links will be posted like the one below:

Using the google doc link open the link and read the definations and quesitons listed and define the remaining terms.
